Education, Academic Bursary/Scholarships Awards
Education, they say, is the bedrock of technology and national development; it is also regarded as an essential resource for human development. A bill that will help our government agree with the above attribute of education must be introduced. The bill will help recognize the need to help students in tertiary institutions financially; this bill will be one of the bills I intend to introduce. The absence of a definite law makes it optional for the executive arm of government to carry out this function of awarding bursary awards to students. Recognition of brilliantly performing students, providing academic bursary payments, payments of external examination fees for a definite number of excelling students, and extending scholarships and grants will help ease some of the financial impediments to learning. Healthy competition among schools in the constituency and the state will improve our academic capabilities and ability to compete globally. Introducing scholarship programs for brilliant high school graduates to study in local and international universities will be a reason to compete and a motivation to excel. The facilitation of more schools, the renovation, and rehabilitation of existing schools will be a priority. A conducive learning environment is synonymous with the student’s ability to focus and improve.
